What is SearXNG?

SearXNG is a free internet metasearch engine which aggregates results from various search services and databases. Users are neither tracked nor profiled.

Each request you make using this search engine will be cleaned from tracking parts and forwarded, on your behalf, to every engines configured on this instance. The results will be clean from tracking bits, consolidated and presented to you.

The simplest way of using it is to point your Web browser to NoGoo.me and start searching for the things you like.

SearXNG also supports OpenSearch. This means you can configured you preferred Web browser to use SearXNG as the default search engine. Mozilla explains how to add or remove a search engine in Firefox. Microsoft describes how to change your default search engine.

Why should I use it?

This is a question only you can answer. Never forget that: “There is no Cloud™. It’s just someone’s computer”. That said, here’s why I’m using SearXNG.

Enhance privacy

SearXNG queries various search-engines on your behalf and clean the answers from tracking bits ; this means less cookie crumbs on your workstation.

Big Tech search engines don’t know about you, they learn about NoGoo.me. All the IP address they see is the one from NoGoo.me’s infrastructure.

You only asks NoGoo.me. It asks various remote services. You get a single aggregated set of result pages.

Masquerade your localization

Your IP address and localization information never make it throughout SearXNG. Every requests will seem to come from NoGoo.me’s infrastructure. The servers will always be hosted in Europe. As of now, they are located in Nuremberg, Germany.

Should I trust NoGoo.me?

Probably (not). Trust not one on the Internet.

I need privacy, not because my actions are questionable, but because your judgement and intentions are.

SearXNG is my default search engine since 2021. I trust it to not send tracking bits but I’m not an endangered or secret person. I simply don’t send things that must be kept secret on the Internet.

What information is collected from NoGoo.me?

Long-story-short: almost none.

No information is collected by NoGoo.me in spying or commercial means. The diplomatic justification is that I simply don’t have time to collect, parse and organize such information. The truth is I simply don’t care what you’re looking for.

• The Reverse-Proxy logs your IP in case errors happens during the TLS sessions. Those logs are kept locally for 2 days and automatically wiped out using newsyslog(8).
• The Python WSGI HTTP Server logs your IP, your User-Agent and your URI details ; mostly like the Apache Combined format. The logs are kept locally for 2 days and automatically wiped out using newsyslog(8). The logs are parsed by the collectd tail module to store the number of HTTP requests that were made ; no data is stored, it’s only a counter.
• The SearXNG engine logs nothing.
• The Redis in-memory databases only logs system errors. The collectd redis module gather anonymous metrics like Cache Hit/Miss, database size etc.
• Servers technical metrics (CPU and RAM usage, Number of HTTP requests, etc) are kept 53 weeks on the remote monitoring server.
