What is nogoo.me?
nogoo.me is a hobby project that provides public IT services running on the OpenBSD operating system.
Why providing IT services?
Because I can: Let’s face it, I’m kind of a geek. I don’t play games, I play self-hosting things. I use those daily and mostly know what I’ m doing ;-)
Because dopamine: When people use some service I provide, like it and send me a nice message, the “reward” chemical shot happens. And that’s satisfying.
Because decentralization: Internet is way too centralized those days; think Big Tech. Deploying diversity back to the Internet is a good thing IMHO.
Because privacy: We need privacy, not because our actions are questionable, but because their judgement and intentions are. If you behave “properly”, there is no reasons companies and governments have access to your private data.
Because lead by example: Showing that it can be done should inspire and motivate other knowledgeable people to do so, when they can.
What’s so special about nogoo.me?
It uses OpenBSD as a core system. That’s all.
It is here to demonstrate that Linux is not the only alternative to Microsoft Windows when it comes to running Internet services. There are many other alternatives too. I just choose that particular one.
Strength lies in differences, not in similarities.
Who maintains nogoo.me?
nogoo.me is managed by Joel Carnat, a French IT Architect that has an insatiable love for OpenBSD, free and open source software (FOSS) and Self-hosting.
